Michelle Lee Chin, M.D.
Mention Ob/Gyn to most people, and they’ll think about babies. That’s one part of Dr. Chin’s job. But there’s so much more. Dr. Chin’s patients range in age from 15 to 99. She treats women at every stage of their lives, and counsels them on issues ranging from contraceptives to infertility, from endometriosis to osteoporosis, and everything in between.
With all the changes women experience – adolescence, childbirth, menopause – they face many health issues. While many women are well informed about their health, some are still reluctant to ask for advice or seek treatment when they have a condition that worries them.
Dr. Chin is trying to change that by giving patients the power of information – answering questions, offering reassurance, “helping them understand what’s normal and what’s not,” she says. Dr. Chin says many women feel most comfortable talking to another woman about their health problems, because they know she can relate to their concerns. Dr. Chin’s patients get a lot of praise for taking the time to come in, asking questions, and airing their concerns. She likes knowing that her patients leave her office informed, confident, and with their health needs cared for.
And then there are the babies. Dr. Chin has stopped counting how many she has delivered, but she sees the impact of her work when a patient drops by with kids in tow. She still can’t get over seeing two- and three-year-olds and knowing she helped bring them into the world. But it’s one of the rewards of her work – one out of so many.
