In May 2007, seven-year-old Gabrielle was hit by a car. The accident left her with both a brain injury and a broken leg. She was in a coma for nearly two weeks, and couldn’t walk or talk when she was first transferred to Unity.

Gabrielle’s mom, Nicole, tells us about their experience with Unity…

Even though she wasn’t walking or talking, within 24 hours, the Unity staff had her moving around. Gabrielle was at Unity for a month, and I can’t say enough about the doctors and staff.

The entire staff was wonderful at bringing all of the treatments and procedures to her level, and engaging her in her recovery. From Aaron in physical therapy who used a “ballerina” analogy to help her do non-weight-bearing exercises to the speech therapists that used picture boards, everyone was just wonderful.

Gabrielle has come a long way. she’s a real outdoor girl: she loves to go to the park and climb the rock wall. She doesn’t let anything slow her down…
