Two Total Hip Replacements(Right and left hip)
The Joint Replacement Center at Unity Hospital
A bone disease left Karen virtually crippled, as both hip bones were literally disintegrating. Her surgeon recommended a total hip replacement. In June 2003, she had her first hip replaced. In July 2004, the second. Today, she is totally pain free and claims she doesn't even think about the chronic pain she was in prior to her surgeries. "It's amazing to think that just when I was ready for a wheel chair I got a hip replacement instead. Now, I'm more active than ever and enjoy taking care of my two-year old triplet grandchildren. My condition had gotten so bad that I hated to leave the house. I was hunched over, could barely walk and was in incredible pain. It's a gift waking up each morning, putting my two feet on the floor, standing straight up and walking.out of the house to live life!"
"My experience at Unity was absolutely superb. I loved the solitude and rest I was able to get in my private room. The nursing staff was amazing, 24-hours a day. The entire team was so knowledgeable -- supporting me every step of the way. There was nothing they wouldn't do for me. After my first hip replacement, I went to Unity's Transitional Care Unit (TCU) for nearly two weeks. All the physical therapy was excellent (two times a day). After my second surgery I went to the TCU for only a week. Initially, I was terrified of surgery. Now, I tell everyone about how my life was saved. I got my life back and have the compassionate, expert care I received in the Joint Replacement Center at Unity to thank!" "Thank you!"
