Sue found a lump during a breast self-exam and called Dr. Nagendra Nadaraja, chief of Surgery at Unity Hospital, who arranged for her to have a mammogram that same day. Within one week, Sue underwent a total mastectomy and reconstructive surgery at Unity Hospital. She credits Dr. Nadaraja for leading the charge in the excellent, compassionate health care that she received.

“I was in panic mode. If I had to do it over again, I might have taken a step back and thought about it for a little longer,” said Sue. “But in the end, it was the right decision for me.” Because of the quick surgical intervention, Sue did not have to have chemotherapy or radiation therapy.

“Everywhere I go I meet women who have a story like mine,” said Sue. She said she is so thankful for the support and encouragement she receives from other breast cancer survivors. Sue encourages all women to do breast self examinations monthly. She had no family history of cancer and her own detection lead to early treatment for Sue.
