Renee Diedrick

Renee Diedrick is a marketing communications coordinator at Unity Health System, but many seniors in Greece have given her another title: “the mall walker girl.”

Renee organizes Unity’s free mall walking club at the Mall at Greece Ridge Center. When Renee is out and about in Greece, the odds are good she’ll run into someone from Walkin’ and Talkin’, because the club has attracted hundreds of members.

Giving older adults a fun, healthy way to socialize and exercise is just one benefit of Walkin’ and Talkin’. Seniors who come to the mall to walk get extra mileage from the wellness screenings and health information provided by Unity professionals. The club is growing by positive word of mouth, Renee says, and members “love it – they absolutely love it. They like the free information, and they’re glad Unity is so dedicated to helping them age healthfully.”

Renee looks forward to the club meetings, which start at 8:30 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month. “People are surprised that I remember their names, but I’m always so excited to see them,” she says.

It’s easy to spot Walkin’ and Talkin’ members; they’ll be the ones wearing the free T-shirts Unity provides, and the big smiles. So if you’re looking for a way to stay healthy, stop by the mall, join in the fun – and say hi to Renee.
