When Willie Weekly moved into Moore Park Senior Apartments, he felt right at home. After all, he and his wife, Verna, have lived in the Bulls Head neighborhood for more than 40 years.
The Unity St. Mary’s Campus is a familiar place, too. Willie has been a frequent visitor since his beloved Verna, diagnosed with dementia, became a resident of Unity Living Center. After one of his daily visits with her, Willie walked through the lobby and spotted a poster describing plans for a new apartment complex on the campus. “It looked so beautiful and so convenient, I just had to find out more,” Willie recalls.
When he toured a model apartment, Willie had no doubt-it was the right independent living choice for him. “I said to myself, this is a heaven-sent situation!” Among the first to move in when Moore Park opened in the fall of 2004, Willie enjoys the bright, modern living space and the convenience of living on a health care campus.
“Everything I need is right here in one place,” Willie says, referring to the on-site amenities, including a cafeteria, gift shop, doctors offices, a 24-hour Walk-In Care Center, and a pharmacy that will deliver prescriptions right to his door. And now, Willie can visit Verna without even walking outdoors. “I get to see her every day,” he says. “Her face lights up when I walk in the room.”
For Verna and Willie, life has brought many changes. But thanks to Unity, they have come full circle and found a place that feels just like home.
