Memorial Service Will Remember
Rochester’s Homeless
December 21 is National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day
WHAT: Unity Health System Health Reach and Health Care for the Homeless will hold the 5th annual “When Love Remembers Life” service to remember Rochester’s homeless who have lost their lives in 2011. The service will include speakers, proclamations from the city of Rochester and Monroe County recognizing the event, lighting of candles, and the reading of names of those that have lost their lives while homeless.
WHY: National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day is December 21, the first day of winter and the longest night of the year. Each year, our homeless residents die from exposure to unsafe conditions and violence. Since 1990, the National Coalition for the Homeless has sponsored events on this day to bring attention to homelessness, and remember the homeless people we have lost in our community.
