Park Ridge Auxiliary Accepting Donations for Lights of Love
The Park Ridge Auxiliary is accepting donations for its on-going Lights of Love campaign. Since 1988, the popular campaign has raised funds for Unity Health System.
Lights of Love can be purchased in honor of, or in memory of, loved ones for a donation of $8. During the holiday season, the lights decorate trees and flagpoles throughout Unity’s campuses.
A memorable lighting ceremony is held each year to celebrate those being honored or memorialized. This year’s Lights of Love ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Unity Hospital Education Center, 1555 Long Pond Road. A book with the names of all the honorees will be on display. Festivities will include refreshments and a performance by the St. Lawrence Church Choir, followed by the tree lighting at the front entrance of Unity Hospital, and the singing of "Silent Night." There will be more than 8,500 lights simultaneously turned on at the three Unity Health System campuses the night of the event.
“Each year we are touched by all the support this campaign has had from the community,” said Sharlene Penna, president of the Park Ridge Auxiliary. “Lights of Love is a way to honor friends and family while giving back to the community, and the lighting ceremony is a beautiful and emotional event.”
Since 1976, the organization has raised approximately $4.5 million in donations for Unity Health System. Auxilians have also given countless hours of volunteer time.
