Our Nurse Recruitment team is often on-site at colleges and universities throughout the academic year to help you learn more about positions available at Unity.

Summer Internship Program

Get real-world nursing experience under the guidance of an expert RN preceptor
If you’re preparing to enter the final year of your Associates’ or BSN degree program, you may qualify for a summer clinical internship at Unity Health System.
This hands-on, 10-week program will give you the opportunity to earn a paycheck while working directly with a dedicated Unity preceptor in a real-world acute care setting.
It’s a great way to see what professional nursing is all about - build your confidence, and take a big step forward toward a nursing career. In fact, a high percentage of our summer interns take full-time jobs at Unity after completing their degree.
In-depth, hands-on experience
During your internship at Unity, you’ll get to participate in:
- Patient assessments
- The development of patient care plans
- Communication with physicians & other members of the patient care team
- And other important nursing tasks
Bottom line? You’ll be involved in a wide range of professional nursing responsibilities under the guidance of your personal Unity preceptor.
Work in an acute care setting
When you join our Summer Internship Program, you’ll get to work in a medical or surgical unit at Unity Hospital or in one of the following acute care settings:
- Emergency Center
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- August Family Birth Place
- Walk-In Care Center
- Salmen Surgical Center operating rooms
- Brain Injury Unit
These are exciting and challenging work environments that will help you understand exactly what it takes to be a great Unity nurse.
Learn from one of the best
During each shift of your 10-week internship, your Unity preceptor will work with you on a one-to-one basis to explain processes and procedures, answer your questions, and give you valuable insights into the thought processes that lead to the development and implementation of an effective plan of care.
Our preceptors are carefully selected for their clinical and educational expertise as well as the energy and enthusiasm they bring to their mentoring role.
Only nurses who truly love working with students become preceptors in our internship program.
Find out if you qualify
- Our Summer Internship Program is designed for students who will be entering the final year of their RN nursing program immediately after the completion of their internship.
- The program is open to students pursuing a two- or three-year Associate’s degree as well as a four-year BSN.
- Applicants must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher.
- Students must be able to commit to 24 hours per week for 10 weeks.
- To apply, complete an online application, and submit an on the topic: "Why I want to become a nurse."
Apply early, because space is limited
Our Summer Internship Program only accepts a limited number of students each year. And most positions are filled months before the program begins. The application deadline is February 15, 2011.
So if you’re interested, apply as early as possible. Applications will be accepted starting January 1, 2011 for the summer 2011 program.

High school Scholarship Program
Unity Health System’s Nursing Scholarship Program is for high school seniors intending to pursue an R.N. degree. Unity is pleased to be able to offer six, $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors. One scholarship will be awarded to a student from each of the following school districts:
- Churchville-Chili
- Gates-Chili
- Greece
- Hilton
- Rochester City School District
- Spencerport
Submitting your application is easy
Interested students should complete the scholarship application, submit two letters of reference, and a 100-word essay explaining why they decided to become a nurse.

- Be graduating in June 2010
- Be accepted into a four-year nursing program
