Get real-world nursing experience under the guidance of an expert RN preceptor
If you’re preparing to enter the final year of your associate or bachelor of science nursing degree program, you may qualify for a summer clinical internship at Unity Health System.
This hands-on 10-week program offers you an opportunity to work directly with a dedicated Unity preceptor in a real-world acute care setting while earning a paycheck. This excellent training can help build your confidence and give you an advantage as you pursue your nursing career. In fact, summer interns often accept full-time jobs at Unity after completing their degree.
In-depth hands-on experience
During your internship at Unity, you’ll participate in:
- Patient assessments
- Development of patient care plans
- Communication with physicians & other members of the patient care team
- A wide variety of nursing tasks
Your personal Unity preceptor will guide you as you take on professional nursing responsibilities. You'll learn firsthand how some of the area's best nurses do their job.
Work in an acute care setting
When you join our Summer Internship Program, you’ll work in a medical or surgical unit at Unity Hospital or in one of the following acute care settings:
- Emergency Center
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- August Family Birth Place
- Walk-In Care Center
- Salmen Surgical Center operating rooms
- Acute Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Program
These exciting and challenging work environments will help you understand exactly what it takes to be a great Unity nurse.
Learn from Unity's best
During each shift of the 10-week internship, your Unity preceptor will work with you one on one explaining processes and procedures, answering your questions and offering valuable insights into developing and implementating an effective plan of care.
Our preceptors are carefully selected for their clinical and educational expertise as well as the energy and enthusiasm they bring to their mentoring role. Only nurses who truly love working with students become preceptors in our internship program.
Find out if you're eligible
Our Summer Internship Program is designed for students who will enter the final year of their RN nursing program immediately after completing their internship. The program is open to students pursuing a two- or three-year Associate’s degree as well as a four-year BSN.
To qualify you must:
- Have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Commit to 24 hours per week for 10 weeks
Apply early because space is limited

High school Scholarship Program
Unity Health System’s Nursing Scholarship Program is for high school seniors intending to pursue a bachelor of science nursing degree. Unity is pleased to be able to offer six $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors. We will award a scholarship to one student from each of the following school districts:
- Churchville-Chili
- Gates-Chili
- Greece
- Hilton
- Rochester City School District
- Spencerport

Perioperative Residency Program for Graduate Nurses
Jump start your specialty nursing career at Unity Hospital
If you’re a new graduate nurse and you’re interested in Perioperative Nursing, Unity Hospital is the place for you! We’re introducing a special eight-month program with both classroom training and direct clinical orientation with an experienced preceptor in the Operating Room.
Is Perioperative Nursing right for me?
Perioperative nursing is a rapidly growing career field. You’ll be relied upon for your professional judgment and critical thinking skills. You’ll also work closely with patients, family members, and other health care professionals to help plan, implement, and evaluate patient treatment.
In the operating room, perioperative nurses may be a scrub nurse, circulating nurse, or R.N. first assistant. You’ll be called upon to do many different activities, think on your feet, and handle urgent situations in a calm manner.
This program will help you build on what you’ve already learned about nursing – and give you a wealth of experience working with many different service lines, including Orthopaedic, Neurology and Spine, GYN, GU, General, Vascular, and Thoracic.
Eligibility requirements
To participate in this exciting program, you need to be:
- A graduate of an accredited school of Nursing with your Associates or BSN degree
- Able to successfully complete National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) within 90 days of your hiring date
- Committed to the challenge of Operating Room nursing
- Dedicated to ongoing education and training
- A self-starter who is skilled in problem solving, teamwork, and communications
