“I wanted a more fulfilling and rewarding career - I started as a care assistant and fell in love with the profession.”
Patrick Rohr, R.N., Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
I used to be a mason, but I wanted a more fulfilling and rewarding career – I also needed to be able to support my family. I was interested in nursing because it’s the kind of career that can take you anywhere. I started as a care assistant and fell in love with the profession.
While working as a C.N.A. for Unity’s Acute Rehabilitation and Brain Injury program, I took my boards and became an R.N. After a brief stint at another facility, I returned to Unity because I really missed the patient interaction.
In our area, you see a dramatic improvement in people from when they come in to when they return home. You see the difference you make every day and, we develop long-term relationships with patients and their families. You need to have a lot of patience, but I really enjoy helping people regain their abilities, encouraging their independence, and seeing them get their confidence back.
I like Unity because it’s not too big and it’s not too small. Whatever you need, you can find it here. It’s a welcoming, friendly place – and you’re not a number.
If someone’s considering a career in nursing, I’d tell them to go for it!
