Emergency Center

Unity Hospital’s Emergency Center is a trusted source of care for patients; that’s why so many of them choose to come back. Patient volumes for the department just keep growing, and our patient satisfaction surveys tell us why. The E.C. has reached close to 100 percent satisfaction in key areas such as quality of care, wait times, pain management, and staff friendliness.

Great results like this don’t just happen. The E.C. staff works hard to deliver both excellent medical care and attentive customer care.

As busy as the E.C. gets, nurses like Judy Green, R.N. and Jami Hafner, R.N., always take the time to smile, say hello, and listen to patients’ concerns. The E.C. nursing team routinely cares for a hundred patients each day – but still see each one as an individual. “You treat each patient the way you would want a loved one treated,” Judy says. Jami says nurses reassure patients by checking on them frequently, explaining their treatment and encouraging them to ask questions. Bringing family members to the bedside quickly is also a priority in the E.C. “It helps calm patients, and it calms their families too,” Jami says.

Joseph Giangreco, D.O. says the staff’s compassionate approach to care helps patients physically, as well as emotionally. “I always remind patients that we’re going to take care of them,” he says. “If patients know that someone is looking out for their needs, they’re going to feel a lot better.”

The E.C. team constantly evaluates and enhances its patient care services. Bedside patient registration has cut wait times, while the relocation of the Admissions Department to the E.C. streamlines patient transfers to Unity Hospital. And now that the $27 million expansion and renovation of the E.C. is complete, it can accommodate growing patient volumes and even more advanced patient care services.

These are just a few of the projects the department has implemented to make things better for patients. Rest assured; there will be others. When it comes to caring for patients, this staff will never be satisfied.
