Women's Health and Imaging Services at Unity Hospital is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of illnesses that affect women from adolescence through menopause and beyond. We bring health care for women in the Rochester area to a new level by providing clear explanations to patients and expert analyses of test results to the physicians who refer them to our care.

Mammography Service
Mammography is currently one of the best tests available to detect breast cancer by using a safe, low-dose x-ray technique that creates an image of the inside of the breast.

Mammography is a valuable screening procedure because it can detect breast abnormalities before they are felt. Early detection can save your life. Since the risk for breast cancer increases with age, most doctors agree that women should have a baseline mammogram by age 40 and continue with regular mammograms. Women with higher risk factors, such as a close family member with the disease, should have annual mammograms 10 years earlier than the age at which the relative was diagnosed.

Women's Health and Imaging Services provides the following tests and services:

Our experienced and knowledgeable staff will help you feel comfortable when you come to Unity Hospital for your mammogram. We understand that this test can be stressful and we will do everything possible to put you at ease.

Bone density testing
Osteoporosis, a disease that makes bones brittle, occurs when bone mineral density decreases and bone tissue deteriorates. This leaves the body more vulnerable to bone fractures and broken bones. To determine bone loss, medical experts now recommend bone density tests for all women age 65, postmenopausal women with one or more risk factors for osteoporosis, adults who have had a fracture as a result of osteoporosis, and women on prolonged steroid or hormone replacement therapy.

Currently, the most accurate, comprehensive, and fastest technique for determining bone density is a DEXA scan, available at Women's Health and Imaging Services at Unity Hospital. A DEXA scan is a quick and painless test using tiny amounts of radiation to provide measurements of the hip and spine to help diagnose osteoporosis.

A specially trained physician will read your results and notify you of any complications within 10 business days.
