Special Exercise Programs for Seniors

Seniors have special needs when it comes to exercise, and two of our local health insurance companies have programs specifically designed to help meet those needs. Excellus BlueCross BlueShield’s program is called “Go Getters” and MVP Health Care offers “SilverSneakers.”

Go Getters

Excellus BlueCross BlueShield’s Medicare offerings include “Go Getters,” a $650 annual fitness and weight management benefit. Members in Excellus BCBS’ Medicare Blue PPO and Medicare Blue Choice health plans can use this benefit for fitness and weight loss programs at any appropriate facility anywhere in the U.S. – including Unity’s Preventive Exercise Program (P.E.P.). Please contact your insurance company to see if you are eligible for this benefit.

SilverSneakers is a benefit of MVP Preferred Gold members. Any MVP Preferred Gold member can exercise in Unity Cardiac Rehabilitation facility during our normal hours of operation.

You are also eligible to participate in the SilverSneakers exercises classes offered here:

  • Muscular Strength & Range of Movement – Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills.
  • YogaStretch – This moves your whole body through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses to promote stress reduction and mental clarity.
These are taught by our professional staff who are also certified by Healthways to lead these classes. Some other insurance providers also cover these programs – please check with your insurance company to see if you qualify.
