May 8 is Health Care Auxilian Day
Governor Andrew Cuomo has proclaimed Wednesday, May 8, 2012 as Health Care Auxilian Day in New York State to recognize the dedicated auxilians who annually donate more than five million hours of service to their health care facilities and to their communities.
Unity Health System’s Park Ridge Auxiliary has more than 300 members. This year, the Auxiliary gifted $50,000 for the benefit of Unity Neurosciences Program and plans on awarding two health careers scholarships for the fall semester. The Auxiliary has purchased new 32" TVs for all of the newly-renovated med/surg patient rooms in the north hospital scheduled to open this year. In 2012 the Park Ridge Auxiliary gifted over $200,000 which included funding of patient care-related "wish list" items, the final payment of the Auxiliary's Timothy McCormick Transitional Care Center pledge, three health career scholarships, and partial funding of the surgical robot. In 2013 the Auxiliary plans on funding the renovation of its Park Place Gift Shop. The Auxiliary raises funds through fundraising events, gift shop sales, and through patient telephone and television billing.
New York State has more than 75,000 health care auxilians who initiate, fund, and volunteer for a wide variety of patient and family care services—from outpatient clinics to intensive care units. They sponsor health fairs, blood banks, and wellness lecture series; raise funds for hospital and nursing home equipment; and organize and underwrite outreach programs in their communities.
