Unity Leads Awareness Campaign
on Synthetic Drug Danger
As part of a broad community education campaign Unity Behavioral Health hosted a special Let’s Talk Health event last night at the Education Center.
Parents, teachers, and health care professionals discussed the warning signs, legal status, and alarming risks of synthetic drugs that mimic the effects of marijuana and cocaine. These dangerous drugs are sold in local convenience stores and smoke shops despite known side-effects such as seizures, hallucinations, and related poor decision-making.
The event was hosted by Sean Carroll from 13 WHAM-TV and was the focus of several news stories on WHAM-TV and NEWS 10 NBC. Other educational events in the media have included a 30 minute television special, a live synthetic drugs hotline, and several interviews with television and radio.
Unity will donate copies of the 30 minute television special to every middle school and high school in Monroe County.
