August Family Birth Place Recognizes
World Breast Feeding Week
Rochester, N.Y. (August 3, 2011) – World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year in the first week of August in more than 120 countries. It encourages improved health of infants and toddlers by promoting breastfeeding to mothers around the world.
The August Family Birth Place at Unity Hospital is celebrating World Breastfeeding Week with a variety of awareness events for staff and patients. The Family Birth Place offers breastfeeding support throughout the year by offering the following services:
• A full time, board certified lactation consultant and 5 certified lactation counselors available 7 days a week
• Support to patients who want to breastfeed their infants through its breastfeeding help line at 368-4033
• Prenatal birth classes which include breastfeeding education, easily accessed by calling 368-4006 to register.
• Two employee pumping rooms, one located in the August Family Birth Place at Unity Hospital and the other at the Unity St. Mary’s Campus.
Studies show that breastfeeding is the best way to provide newborns with the nutrients they need. The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding until a baby is six months old, and continued breastfeeding with the addition of nutritious complementary foods for up to two years or beyond.
