Rochester, N.Y. (June 30, 2011) – The Unity Health Foundation has raised over $208,000 to help fund a new Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), part of Unity’s Health Reach Health Care for the Homeless program. The MMU, a 40-feet long vehicle which contains primary care and dental exam/treatment rooms, travels the roads of Rochester to provide medical services to homeless individuals and families. Last year, the staff of the MMU provided care to 600 patients.

Unity Health Foundation - which provides financial support for Unity Health System's programs, services, and related community needs - raised over $208,000 thanks to the generous support of its donors. The rest of the almost $400,000 needed for the MMU came from a reallocation of federal grant funds and revenue from Unity’s Health Reach Health Care for the Homeless budget.

Unity’s Health Reach Health Care for the Homeless program provides primary and comprehensive health care services for the homeless in the Rochester area. Services provided at shelters and other locations for men, women, and children include health assessments, treatment, referral, and coordination with primary care providers, TB screenings, immunizations, gynecological care, well-child services, substance abuse evaluations, mental health evaluations, and HIV/AIDS education and testing.
