Unity’s Healthy Start Center to Recognize Six Young Adult Mothers for Getting Their Driver’s Licenses

WHAT:  A celebration to recognize six young adult mothers who have been able to get their driver’s licenses thanks to the support of Unity Health System’s Healthy Start Center.

WHO:  Scheduled speakers will be: Michael Nazar, M.D., vice president of Primary Care and Community Services, Unity Health System; Alise Gintner, manager of Community Perinatal Programs, Healthy Start, Unity Health System; Sarah Cardillo, community relations manager, M&T Bank; and Kimberly Rodriguez, a client in the Healthy Start program who got her license.

WHEN:  Friday, March 25, 2011 from 12:00 to 12:30 p.m.

WHERE:  Unity St. Mary’s Campus, East Auditorium, First Floor, 89 Genesee Street.

WHY:  Transportation is often a barrier for clients of the Center, as they don’t have the time, money or support system to get a license. The Healthy Start Center used funds from a 2008 grant from M&T Bank to support a driver education program. The center paid for learner’s permits, driving lessons and 5-hour pre-licensing classes with the Morgan School of Driving, and the road tests.

*Media coverage of this event is welcomed.* Parking is permitted in the parking garage at Unity St. Mary’s campus. A corporate communications team member will meet reporters and photographers in the main lobby.
