Unity Celebrates Opening of Diabetes Center
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on September 4, 2008, to celebrate the opening of Unity Diabetes Center. Unique to the Rochester area, the Center offers comprehensive treatment for those with diabetes and other endocrine needs, including individual and group counseling, nutrition management, exercise programs, and the latest treatment options and technologies.
”Diabetes is a complex condition, and its impact varies from patient to patient,” said K.K. Rajamani, M.D., chief of Endocrinology at Unity Hospital. “Our approach involves diabetes management, as well as the treatment of those conditions that affect people with diabetes. Having a team of physicians and clinicians specialized in endocrinology, and the unique structure of our program enables patients to get treatment for diabetes and associated illnesses in one place.”
“Those diagnosed with diabetes in New York State has doubled in the past ten years, making convenient and timely access to care a challenge,” added Jean Bauch, R.D. C.D.E., manager of Unity Diabetes Center. “The increased need for specialized care of diabetes has caused wait times to escalate. A Center designed exclusively for the care of patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders will alleviate those wait times and increase patients’ access to care.”
Unity Diabetes Center is accepting adult and pediatric patients. The Center specializes in treating type 1 and type 2 diabetes, pre-diabetic conditions, gestational diabetes and other endocrine diseases. Services available for the treatment of conditions associated with diabetes include nutrition and weight management, and a variety of exercise programs. Unity Diabetes Center is located at 687 Lee Road, at the corner of Lexington Avenue.
