Unity Hospital Launches Palliative Care Services

 Unity Hospital now offers Palliative Care Services for in-patients with serious illnesses.  Recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, palliative care helps patients and their families deal with serious Illnesses.  Unlike hospice, palliative care can be provided to patients at any stage of an illness.  Patients who may benefit from palliative care are those with advanced cases of illnesses, such as cancer, heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, stroke, ALS, advanced dementia and multiple sclerosis.


Led by Mindy Stevens Shah, M.D., Unity Hospital’s Palliative Care team is comprised of physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, spiritual care providers and counselors that provide a variety of support, including help with:

  • Pain management other symptoms associated with serious illnesses
  • Reviewing options for medical care
  • Arranging for services after discharge from Unity Hospital that maximize the patient’s independence, dignity and quality of life
