Support group for families affected by substance abuse
Addiction affects individuals and their families. Family members who struggle with a loved one’s addiction feel the devastating spiritual, emotional and physical affects of the disease.
Unity Chemical Dependency offers a four session Family Education Program to help those affected by a loved one’s chemical dependency. The program is free of cost, and open to the community.
The topics of the sessions are:
· The difference between use, abuse and dependency; what happens in the treatment and recovery process; and the stages of change
· How family members are affected by codependency, and how they can help their loved ones
· Family roles and defense mechanisms
· Detachment and family recovery
The Family Education Program is ongoing, and meets every Wednesday, from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Unity Chemical Dependency, 1565 Long Pond Rd. (Unity Park Ridge Campus.)
