Volunteer Opportunities

At Unity Health System, volunteers are called on to perform a wide variety of customer-focused duties, from visiting with patients and working in the gift shop - to clerical assistance and spiritual care. Most volunteer opportunities allow for flexible scheduling, so you have the freedom to volunteer as many hours per week as you like. Opportunities are available in a variety of professional, health-related, and informal settings.

Everyone, from every walk of life, is welcome to volunteer at Unity Health System! Volunteers must be at least 14-years old.

Volunteer Opportunities Available as of

Roving Ambassadors
Meet and greet visitors; offer information and answer questions; escort them to their destinations.
Reception & Information Desks Greet visitors, answer questions, and give directions. Also deliver mail and flowers to patients (Unity Hospital main information desk only).
Patient/Resident Transport Transport patients to and from various treatment and diagnostic areas by wheel chair or gurney.
Gift Shop Stock and sell merchandise, and keep shop neat and nicely organized.
Children's Day Care Help staff care for children, read stories, organize games, and more.
Adult Day Care Help staff with various activities while interacting with participants one-on-one or in groups.
Recreation and Leisure Help staff provide a range of activities at our nursing homes, adult day care programs, and senior housing communities.
Friendly Visiting Visit with nursing home residents and/or hospital patients in need of someone to talk with or who would like to be read to.
Clerical Answer multi-line phones, direct calls, and relay messages as needed. Perform clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, or compiling materials for reports and meetings. Enter data on computer system.
Mentor Work with behavioral health staff to raise the self-esteem of children at risk, and serve as a positive role model for children.
Tutoring Tutor teenagers receiving care in our Behavioral Health program.
Spiritual Care Work with chaplains to enhance spiritual care offered to patients, residents, and clients.
Hospital Patient Advocate Meet with patients to explain Bill of Rights, listen to patient concerns, serve as a liaison between patient and staff.
Magazine Cart Distribute magazines and other reading materials to patients.
Stock and Inventory Stock shelves and fill orders for hospital departments.
Environmental Services Help staff with general housekeeping.
Maintenance & Groundskeeping Help crew with a variety of projects, such as repairing wheelchairs, weeding, and mulching.
Food and Nutritional Services Assist in kitchens, cafeterias, and with food carts.
Shipping and Receiving Help staff deliver packages to various departments.
Mail Room Help sort and deliver mail at Unity Hospital and the Park Ridge Professional Office Building.
