Hello AnonymousI, the prickly pear is a fruit that is rich in magnesium and potassium which are minerals that help lower blood pressure, and help our muscles contract. They are a great source of Vitamin A and C which are antioxidants that fight against diseases. There are some studies thru the National Institute of Health that report that the prickly pear has an effect of promoting glucose to enter the cells quicker. Like most fruits, one serving has 60 calories, 15 grams of carbohydrate, no fat and 5 grams of fiber. Therefore yes a prickly pear is a good choice of food to add to your diet. Thanks for your question, which has prompted me to try one this weekend!
